About this hub
Commodity rates by item is DeshSeva’s nationwide index of wholesale modal prices quoted at Indian mandis (regulated agricultural markets). On our latest reporting date, 14/04/2026, the database carried 12,593 mandi rows across 210 commodities, 22 states and 1,003 regulated markets. The cross-commodity average modal for the day worked out to about ₹4,481/quintal. In total, we maintain dedicated rate pages for 450 distinct commodities — each with its own history chart, variety-level breakdown, and state / market mix.
How these rates are organised
Every price on this site traces back to a row in the canonical mandi fact table — one record per (market, commodity, variety, grade, arrival date) reported. The hub rolls those rows up in three ways:
- All-India snapshot — headline stats and charts on this page use the latest arrival date across every commodity and market.
- Per-commodity page — drilling into, for example, Wheat opens a page that filters the fact table to just that item and plots its own daily band, monthly trend and state distribution.
- Per-variety page — commodities with multiple named varieties (different rice, wheat or paddy types, for example) expose a further level so you can compare like-with-like instead of mixing varieties.
The hub shows data as it arrives: new mandi rows are appended to the fact table, never replacing past history, so the time-series charts always run from the earliest record we hold through to the latest published day.
What’s most active right now
On 14/04/2026, the commodities with the most mandi rows in our database were Wheat, Potato, Onion, Tomato, Brinjal, among others. Row counts reflect the breadth of price reporting for that day, not absolute production volume. The most active states by reporting activity on the same day were Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab, and others.
Comparing the latest seven days’ mean of daily-average modals against the prior week, the biggest upward mover is Dry Grapes (+35.9% week-on-week), while the biggest downward mover is Galgal(Lemon) (-36.7%). These are statistical observations only — local weather, arrivals and procurement schedules can all drive short-run movement in either direction.
How to read the charts on this page
- 24-month monthly trend — each point is the mean of daily-average modals across all commodities for that calendar month. This smooths out day-to-day noise and shows the broad cost-of-basket direction. Over the window shown, the monthly number moved roughly -9.7% from 2025-01 to 2026-04.
- 90-day daily band — for each arrival date we plot the average modal across all commodities (line) and the same-day minimum and maximum modals (shaded band). A wide band means the basket of commodities had a wide spread that day; a narrow band means prices clustered tightly.
- Top commodities bar chart — shows the items with the most mandi rows on the latest date; hover to see the average modal and how many states and markets quoted each commodity.
- State activity bar chart — bar length is row count for the state on the latest date; the tooltip also shows the cross-commodity average modal and how many commodities were quoted there.
Units and date format
- Currency — Indian rupees per quintal (₹/quintal). 1 quintal = 100 kg. Per-kilogram figures can be derived by dividing by 100.
- Price metric — we use the modal price (the most frequently quoted transaction price that day) throughout the hub because it is the conventional benchmark in Indian mandi reporting. Per-commodity pages additionally show the same-day min / max spread.
- Dates — arrival dates use DD/MM/YYYY (Indian format). The headline date is the latest day we have price data for, not necessarily today’s calendar date.
- Historical coverage — our mandi history for this hub runs from 01/01/2025 to 14/04/2026.
How this page relates to other commodity tools
This hub is an overview surface. For deeper analysis, DeshSeva offers two complementary tools:
- Commodity Prices — an interactive explorer with filters for state, district, market, commodity, variety, grade and date range, plus a customisable chart that can plot min / max / modal over time. Use it when you want to pin down the figure for a specific location or pull a custom date-range chart.
- Mandi commodity prices (daily) — browses the same data by regulated market (mandi). Each mandi page shows every commodity quoted there on the latest day. Use it when you are thinking in terms of a physical market rather than a commodity.
- Per-commodity rate page — reachable from any commodity name in the tables and tiles above. Each leaf page has its own daily band chart, monthly trend, top states, variety list and FAQ.
Data freshness and important caveats
Mandi records flow into our database as they are published. New arrival dates are appended; prior rows are retained so the historical series keeps growing over time. The hub aggregates on this page are cached for a few hours at a time, so a fresh import may take up to several hours to fully reflect here.
A few things to keep in mind while reading these numbers:
- Reporting coverage varies by day. If fewer markets reported on a particular date, the “average modal” for that day is naturally computed from fewer rows.
- Row counts are not volumes. “1,200 rows in Maharashtra” means 1,200 price observations (typically one per commodity per market per day), not physical arrivals or tonnage.
- Cross-commodity averages — mixing wheat with dry-fruit nuts in a single number is useful for overall-direction thinking but is not a substitute for the per-commodity page when you care about one specific item.
- Not a trading recommendation. Figures are provided for research, education and general awareness. For price-sensitive commercial decisions, cross-check against official state-level mandi boards.
FAQ
- What prices does this hub cover?
- Modal wholesale prices from Indian agricultural mandis (regulated markets), in Indian rupees per quintal (100 kg). Modal is the most frequently quoted price on a day; the hub shows all-India roll-ups across commodities, while the per-commodity pages drill into one item at a time.
- What does the headline date on this page represent?
- The headline refers to the latest arrival date in our database, 14/04/2026 (DD/MM/YYYY). On that day we aggregated 12,593 mandi rows across 210 commodities in 22 states, with a cross-commodity average modal of ₹4,481.39/quintal.
- How many commodities have a dedicated page?
- We maintain rate pages for 450 distinct commodities indexed from mandi records, each with its own history chart and variety-level breakdowns.
- Which commodities are most actively reported?
- On the latest reporting date, the commodities with the most mandi rows in our database include Wheat, Potato, Onion, Tomato, Brinjal, among others. Reporting activity reflects how many mandis quoted a price that day, not production volume.
- What are today’s top movers?
- Using the mean of daily-average modal prices over the latest 7 calendar days versus the previous 7 days (requiring at least 3 days of data in each window), the biggest 7-day gainer in our database is Dry Grapes at +35.88% versus the prior 7 days; the biggest 7-day decliner is Galgal(Lemon) at -36.68%. These are statistical observations in our database, not trading recommendations.
- How far back does the historical data go?
- Our mandi price history for this hub runs from 01/01/2025 through 14/04/2026 (DD/MM/YYYY). The 24-month national trend and 90-day daily band charts draw from the tail of that range.
- Why INR per quintal and DD/MM/YYYY?
- Indian mandis quote wholesale prices in rupees per quintal (100 kg) by convention, and arrival dates are shown in Indian day-month-year format for clarity. All currency figures on this hub follow the same unit.
- How is this hub different from the other commodity tools?
- This hub is an all-India overview. Use the per-commodity pages for historical charts and variety-level breakdowns, the Commodity Prices tool for interactive filtering by state/district/market and custom date ranges, and the Mandi Prices tool to browse by individual regulated market.
- How often is this page updated?
- Figures are recomputed periodically from the mandi records held in our database; the hub aggregates are cached for a few hours at a time. The latest arrival date on this page updates as new records are ingested.
