हरड़ की खेती हिमाचल प्रदेश के कांगड़ा जिले में सफलतापूर्वक की जा सकती है क्योंकि यहां की उप-उष्णकटिबंधीय जलवायु, मध्यम वर्षा (1000–2000 मिमी) और 500 से 1500 मीटर की ऊंचाई इसके लिए अनुकूल है। यह पौधा 15°C से 35°C तापमान, अच्छी जल निकासी वाली बलुई दोमट से लेकर चिकनी दोमट मिट्टी, और मध्यम आर्द्रता में अच्छी वृद्धि करता है। इसे पूरी धूप पसंद है, लेकिन हल्की छाया भी सहन कर सकता है। चूंकि यह भारी पाले को सहन नहीं कर पाता, इसलिए इसकी खेती कांगड़ा के निचले व मध्यम पर्वतीय क्षेत्रों में करना अधिक उपयुक्त होता है।
