Sunflower is considered as day neutral plant because of its low photoperiod sensitivity and it can be grown throughtout the year. 2. This crop matures within 90 - 100 days. 3. This crop can tolerate drought conditions and it can be grown even in marginal and submarginal conditions. 4. Handling of this crop is easy with respect to cultivation, harvesting and threshing. 5. Provides high quality oil for edible purpose which is rich in unsaturated fattyacids. This oil is also used for medicinal and industrial purpose. 6. It is suitable for late planting during kharif up to the end of August.
